Plot Summary

Gentlemen, beware the Black Pearl of Death. Three Husbands she has laid to rest.

Burying her third husband, Pearl is forced to return to the family home during her so called time of mourning. While tolerating the presence of her stepfather William Buchanan, she prepares for a future not controlled by the presence of men. The stepdaughter's reputation soiled by three dead husbands, gossip labeling her a black widow, William is determined to clear the family's name and schemes to secure a husband for his precious angel, blood-daughter Abigail. A target is painted on a prominent visitor from France, Marquis Adriel Renaud. Yet, unbeknownst to William, the Marquis too schemes in effort to preserve his family's sacred lineage.

Upon making the acquaintance of the infamous Black Pearl of Death, Adriel is immediately smitten and derailed from following the ancient rules written by his father, the Grandiose Marquis Gautier Renaud. Breaking one of many rules, Adriel shares with Pearl his family secrets that span backwards to the creation of man as she in turn shares her darkest truths concerning the fates of three husbands. An unlikely bond develops between the flamboyantly forward Adriel and emotionally hardened Pearl. As the bond builds into unimaginable proportions, the Renaud legacy is risen to greater heights as the Buchanan legacy burns to ashes.
