Desires 72

Sometimes you have to defend who you are, if not what you are…

Desires – Beginnings

She seemed a bit disappointed for a moment and the lowered her hand to the table. In her mind she thought, “And so another doesn’t accept… And so the past becomes the future once more…

At his admission of knowing her name she nodded slightly and said, “I have no doubt that my name is cursed in the light and the dark for what I am… And for what I refuse to be…”

She continued, “Celebrity? Possibly. I don’t care in the end if I am known by all or by none. Or by one. I have other things that concern me more. And for greater reasons than a simple nod to my status…”

She considered him and said, “Underneath all my powers and legends and lies, there is a woman that is looking for someone to care for and be cared by. Lovers? I haven’t seen a real one in forever. Funny thing isn’t it? I can give others their fantasies and yet I cannot have my own fulfilled by one.”

She took a long sip of the tea and then said, “If you think me a whore then say so. If you wish to judge me then do so. I am what the powers have made me. Or they try to make me so. And yet I try to do something good for all of the evil that they wish to have me and mine create…”

For a moment she looked into the coffee shop and watched a couple hold hands and then kiss softly without caring about who saw their moment of passion. She allowed herself the smallest little smile at the scene and then returned to look at him. With a pleased look on her face she said, “Two souls as one. Perhaps this wasn’t a mistake after all…”

Telling words really…

Telling words, because her desire for love clearly isn’t selfish. But I think, at the moment, only she is perceiving a need to defend who she is, and I suspect that she would be well-served by listening to her companion.

My ears were not quite as open as they are now my heart…
