A Review of Daddy, I Think I’m a Succubus, Werewolf Sex Slave and Virgin Dreams by Lilith Kinke

One of the things that has, from time to time, bothered me about the independent authors publishing their works on Amazon or other sites is that the quality of the work is not in direct relationship to what you have to pay for the work. I’ll explain that further. Some authors will charge $2.99 or more for a work that is over 100 pages in length. To me, that makes sense. You place that much time into writing and you deserve that in return. I do not accept that someone can charge the same amount for a story that is less than 10 pages in length.

That does not make any sense to me. What gets under my skin further is that the preview that these short stories give, if any, stop right after the title page and dedications, not letting you see any of the actual story, or, you only get to read the first half, or if you are lucky, the entire first page of the work.

This is, really, a lousy practise.

This week I am reviewing a trio of stories that have the same Succubus character appearing in them and I regret to say that I have a lot of problems with what could have been something very interesting.

Daddy, I Think I'm a Succubus by Lilith Kinke

Daddy, I Think I'm a Succubus by Lilith Kinke

  • Title: Daddy, I Think I’m a Succubus
  • Author: Lilith Kinke
  • Publishing Date: January 25, 2012
  • Length: 3,200 Words
  • ASIN: B00722Z27A
  • This work at Amazon.com

The story is:

Delilah is just a day shy of turning eighteen, and her step-father has promised to take her on vacation to celebrate her birthday. What she doesn’t know is that she’s a young succubus, and when her birthday comes around, there won’t be man that can control himself around her, including dear ol’ dad.

The first thing I have to say is that there is some incest in this story. It happens at the end of the work, and it’s not all that much, but it is there. Setting that aside, the concept isn’t a bad one, the coming of age of a Succubus, but the problem for me comes in the lack of detail.

We never really know what Delilah looks like when she becomes a Succubus, save that wings appear on her and she looks vaguely devil-like and her eyes change. But otherwise there isn’t much said about that. Oh the author says she has a “sex kitten body” and tells us about that. Yes, we see her finding her powers for the first time and what she does with it, which is a hot little scene, but otherwise? Not so much I thought.

Very little background on Delilah’s mother, which is a shame, I think she could be interesting. Nothing on her “real” incubus father either, her step father you learn more about him than any other character in the work, which I understand for motivations and so on.

The writing is good, no spelling mistakes or obvious errors, but I have to wonder if the author had a good idea of Delilah’s personality when they started writing as she seemed to go through a large change as the climax of the story came and went.

Of course, this story is a hot flash, meaning that there is little character development and what little there is comes as a need to get to the sex scenes above all else.

Overall, the story isn’t a bad one, I did like most of it, but here’s the thing. I can’t justify the $2.99 I paid for it when I compare it to other, longer, works that ask for the same amount.

As such, I can give this work two pitchforks out of five.

I can see it being a 99 cent work at the most.

When the story came to the finish, I thought I had a good idea of where the next story could go, but when I read it, I have to say that I just became more disappointed in it.

Werewolf Sex Slave by Lilith Kinke

Werewolf Sex Slave by Lilith Kinke

  • Title: Werewolf Sex Slave

The story continues with:

Delilah is a bounty hunter succubus with special powers of lust, and she’s looking to take down a pack of sexy werewolves. But when they get their hands on her, it’s they who turn the tables on her.

I’ll note that when this work appeared on Amazon, that the story was titled A Succubus Among Werewolves, but the next day the title was changed to its current form and the art for the book also changed. I’ll get back to that later.

I expected, from how the previous work ended, that we might see what Delilah does with her new found powers as a story. What happens when she goes out and uses her powers to get what she wants.

That didn’t happen. Oh we get about a paragraph that explains she was bored with that life and decided to become a bounty hunter, but that’s all.

The balance of the story is Delilah trying to capture a group of werewolves, it goes really wrong for her, and then what they do to her. In the end there is a cliffhanger of an ending which I expected to be honest. See, it’s not that hard to figure out what’s going to happen by the end of a story when the title of it telegraphs the point of the story as much as this one does, not to mention that the story summary tells you the entire story before you see any of it.

I think I know why the title was changed as it was very close to another work by another author, so I can understand changing the title as a result. Still, I think a slightly less obvious title would have been better and I also think that the summary could have been written better too.

Again, as in the first work, there is no description of what Delilah looks like as a Succubus. There is a little bit on what she wears at the beginning, but otherwise nothing much is said about that. We see a bit of her shapeshifting abilities, and we also get an idea of what can be used to… well, I’ll call it, control a Succubus.

It is a rather violent piece of writing in what happens to her, it’s not a good time for her of course as the title hints at. The author again writes well, save for a bit of skimming over details which I personally have a problem with.

However, again, my problem with this work is the price, again I think it’s too steep for what is offered, and the preview again is incredibly short. As such, like the first book, it bothers me. I could have well accepted the price if both stories were combined into one longer offering. I would be even happier if a third or fourth story was included. But that didn’t happen.

I’ll give this work two pitchforks out of five as well.

The last work in the series was released I think out of sequence with the previous works. It makes some sense if it was placed between them, but falling last in the sequence makes the story make little sense to me.

Virgin Dreams by Lilith Kinke

Virgin Dreams by Lilith Kinke

  • Title: Virgins Dreams
  • Author: Lilith Kinke
  • Publishing Date: January 29, 2012
  • Length: 3,100 Words
  • ASIN: B0073BFC7A
  • This work at Amazon.com

The story tells of:

In another hot succubus tale, virgin Jason dreams of having the hottest girl in school at his feet, sexually worshiping him. When Delilah the succubus offers to make all his dreams come true, including bringing her to him, how far will he go to act out his fantasies?

It’s mostly a tale of a boy wanting a girl but being taunted and shamed by that girl at school. Delilah appears and seduces him into accepting her “help” for lack of a better word. They visit her together and things start to happen. There is a lot of humiliation that happens which bothers me, but in the end at least there is a resolution that I didn’t expect to see in the story.

One thing that really bothers me again is that what Delilah looks like isn’t said again in this story. Wings? Horns? Tail? Your guess is as good as mine because other than a few vague references that say nothing, we just don’t know.

And the other thing is that, while Delilah is a Succubus, just about everything she does, save one or two things, could have been done by any normal woman that was dominant and had brought two other people under her control by hypnosis or something similar. There is some mind control and a bit of sensual or seductive control, but, it’s not all that much Succubus-like to me anyway.

Two pitchforks out of five again.

Overall the world is interesting, Delilah is interesting to a point, and the stories have some promise. But too short by far, not enough character development as always with hot flashes, and, most of all, I don’t like the sudden shift from one situation and concept to another one that really has a very tenuous link to the first work and then back again to a situation that isn’t explained in relationship to the other stories.

If the author ever reads this, here’s what I would like to see. Write the missing story in the middle that connects what you have here. There’s more to reveal than what you can write in one paragraph of memory for Delilah. Give me that and i think I will like this a lot more. That story has to exist somewhere…

Well, it seems to me that all of the author’s interest in how Delilah appears is summed up in the words “sex kitten body.” That should, I think, tell us a lot about why the author is writing these stories, and why we won’t find out a lot more, unfortunately.

Should be more I agree my heart…
