She’s a little young for a Succubus isn’t she?

Earlier this year, there was a new anime series that came to air in Japan that is, at least to me, seemed so very wrong so far as it relates to Succubi when it first appeared…

It’s called Astarotte’s Toy and here are a couple of YouTubes with previews of the series:

If you can’t see it here:

And the other one I found is:

And, again, if not viewable:

And here, lastly, is an image of the main character in the series, known as Astarotte or Lotte…

The first thing of course that has to be talked about is the premise of the story and show. Now I understand that Japanese culture is… different…

The theme is:

In the medieval fantasy world of Alfheimr, succubus princess Astarotte Ygvar, the first princess of the kingdom of Ygvar, has just reached the age of 10. For the coming years of a young succubus’ life, it is necessary for them to have a male harem. In order to maintain their body and preserve their beautiful appearance, they must consume a substance only found on males. This substance is a liquid called Sauzfryma, better known as semen. The princess, however, bears a great dislike against men, and only agrees to create a harem if a human male is to join.

I have so many problems with this premise.

The underage part of it of course is the most troubling for me personally, but that is, according to the wikipedia article here, not that heavily talked about in the actual anime.

Which saves this series for me.

See, the anime series mentions that core fact of the story, but then doesn’t beat you over the head with it all of the time. It’s less about this point of the tale than the relationships and characters within the story itself.

It was very easy to forget about the ick part of the story and watch it for the cuteness, the fun and the joy of the story that the series gave us.

I thought it was interesting that the show focused as much as possible on the characters and just about anything else save the core point of the story. Which really they have to since this show is on “general public” television… So you aren’t likely to see sex scenes and the like which, again, I appreciate…

This coming June 26th will be the last episode of the series and I have no idea how it is going to end, but I have some hopes for what I would like to see happen…

Hoping that it does…

Yes, I am glad they didn’t provide us with several episodes of kiddie porn. On the other hand, a man hating succubus who must still seduce them and consume their semen . . . sounds like some man’s sick idea of a fantasy.

Still the ability of the series to avoid the obvious traps… that was well done…
