Succubi Image of the Week 178

I decided on showcasing some pencil art this time for the Succubi of the week. It has been some time since I have shared one of Deacon Black’s works. This time, I came across a commissioned work that he did that is, quite aptly, called Succubus…

Clicking on the image here will send you to a somewhat larger version of this week with all of its Succubus yumminess…

I found this art originally at the Comic Art Fans site here as a commissioned work by Deacon Black by someone named Mari Stein who also has a website called Comic Obsessions as well. They commissioned this art in January of 2011 and it is really a wonderful piece like all of the art that Deacon Black creates…

The first thing that caught my eye was the look she has… It’s not quite bemusement and it’s not quite temptation, but I think it falls somewhere inbetween which for a Succubus is a good thing really… Her tail is lovely and is the right shape, size and has the proper point on it which is gratifying to see…

The setting is, perhaps, a little bit less seductive than I would like to see with a Succubus like this, but what she is wearing, or mostly wearing, I think is something that will bring for me a lot of interesting stories for Succubi in the future…

Succubi should be sexy and seductive and Deacon has once again given us proof that such creatures in his eyes are exactly that…

Thank you so very much Deacon for that…

You can find Deacon Black’s website here if you would like to see more of his art, Succubi and otherwise, and there is lots and lots of that to be found…

Just an ugly Succubus costume…

I have never given a costume anything less than a zero. Now that’s mostly because I have tried… really tried, to say nice things about the costumes I have found. I hope that, somewhere, there is the slightest bit of Succubus goodness or evilness in them…

But then I came across this.

I give you the first negatively rated costume on the Tale, and it really is well worth the negative rating I’m going to give it.

This costume is described as being a Devil Sexy Costume. It comes with the red dress, the gold belt and the horns according to the description. The red wig, pitchfork, stockings and shoes are not included, but really that doesn’t matter for the ugliness of this costume.

And it sells for $60 US.

Perhaps that is the thing that drives me crazy about this more than how ugly it looks. How can this possibly be worth that much for what little comes with it?

There is nothing sexy in it, the dress is lousy, the horns are as well, the belt… the belt I can’t think of a description of it that didn’t include the word ugly in it.

Where is the sexy? Can someone explain that to me?

Maybe this is something to be worn when there are lots of young children around, I’ll grant you that they wouldn’t see anything but the high level of ugly and silly that is in this, but really?

There is not one thing, not one single thing in this costume that I like, would like, or vould fix into something better than it is.

That’s quite an accomplishment really…

This gets a minus one out of five pitchforks and will be tossed into the local bonfire as soon as possible.

Now all I need is some brain bleach to forget this…

Temptations 113

The story of Bliss and Jay comes to an end this week… But there is always hope in the eyes and tail of a Succubi…

Temptations 113

By TeraS and Jay

Jay stood still for nearly a full minute and silently studied the four motionless figures that flickered and waved in the wind. His eyes roamed over each of them, a kind of recognition reaching his face.

“Bliss, I know these men. I feel a sense of camaraderie, of shared purpose and experience.” His hand gestured first to one silent figure, then another. “Winrich, as brave as he was short. Heinrich, quick to laugh and always with an encouraging word. Werner, who was always able to ferret out the truth no matter how well it was hidden.”

He stopped when he pointed at the specter holding the shield. “I know this one, too. I recognize him … I know him like a brother.” Frustration crossed his face. “But my memory of him is broken.” His expression turned mournful. “They fell together on the steps of the Elbing Hospitale at the height of the siege, their blood mingled with that of more than a dozen foes.”

Jay turned and faced Bliss. “Yes, they open thoughts within me. Memories of strange places and stranger people, and mayhaps not all born of men. But I see a truth now that evaded me before.”

“These men are not the door. This door is within, a wall that locks away that which is most precious, most fundamental. That is why it defies place … the door is not what is in need of finding, the key is.” He turned his head again to the shadowy figures. “They are neither door nor key, but they have shown me the door, and they may mark the road where I will find the key.”

He turned again to Bliss. “So tell me, please. How can I find this road, and what price will that knowledge cost me?”

Bliss gave a slight nod of approval, “The road is. The path is. All it needs is a single step upon it to see.”

She then raised her left hand into the air, flicked her wrist and then, a glow grew from it spiking into the air above her. She did not look up, but focused her eyes upon him, “The road passed through souls. New, old, tired, fresh… It matters not for the path connects them all. But inaction makes the path fade into nothingness…”

The glow from her hand coalesced and took solid form there. She now held a long thin sword in her hand. The hilt of gold and silver twisted and connected to her hand. The shaft straight and true, a core of gold, the cutting edges of silver, and surrounding the metal she held, sheets of flame that licked along the length of it silently. Lowering the blade to her side, the point not at him, but at the figures immobile, she continued, “Metal held does not make honour true. The possession of strength does not make you strong. The will to fight does not make you a fighter.”

In one fluid motion she moved to his side, the blade inches from his neck, now a sound in his ears of the crackling of fire and more. She smiled, not evilly, “Many have fallen to the sword of the Succubi Queen dearest warrior. By their heart for falling to her, by their will for losing it, by their bodies in losing control over them. One quick thrust and they are gone… empty husks that she can make of whatever she wishes…”

Her free hand strokes his chest, “Can you hear the cries of the ones the soul has claimed? How they shriek their innocence in one breath and then admit their guilt in the next? How they lie, cheat, and mislead to try and escape her will? How impossible it is to avoid their fate when they so richly have deserved it?” Then a single pat upon his chest, “But you warrior… I gave you my word for you have none of those things… But the ones there… Oh there is one that is not what he seems… Do you have the will to find him? Confront him? Defeat him and then… then take what is yours by not right but destiny?”

She eyed the still ones, “Or shall I simply cut them all down where they stand? To condemn them all for one’s folly?”

And so ended, at least for the moment, the tale of Jay and Bliss…

Someday perhaps to continue…

We’ll see what may come…

Storm Clouds 124

Chapter 19

By TeraS

“Step back, Camilla. I can’t let you hurt her.”

The answer to that came in a cruel smile and the words, “I haven’t hurt her yet, Dick. Oh, she wants it and loves it, though. She has a fantasy of having her ass whipped until she can’t sit down for a week. You know that dream makes her dripping wet every night?

Tom watched as Camilla, in Ginger’s form, raised her right hand toward the ceiling and a long black riding crop appeared there.

“Camilla, stop. Think about what you’re doing. This isn’t you.”

Oh, but it’s her.

The whip came down hard on Ginger’s rear and a long red mark was left behind … but Ginger herself didn’t say a word. Not one. Tom was, to be blunt, uncomfortable with all of this. The sex part of it didn’t bother him, but the abuse? That was going against what he believed in.

“You’re going to have to stop, Camilla.”

No. This is what she wants, Dick. Not what I want or you want. Now, go and have a drink from the office bar or read a paper or watch, or wait outside. I don’t care because she doesn’t. All she knows is that the one person she can submit to is debasing her and making her be the person she is inside. A meek little fucktoy that needs a firm hand to guide her.

Tom wasn’t buying it and he moved towards Camilla, “Sorry, but you aren’t going to do this.” Tom didn’t want to pull his gun and use it on her. That was a last resort as far as he was concerned. He closed the distance and then took hold of Camilla’s wrist, stopping her from using the crop again.

She looked up at him and her eyes glowed green, “Thomas, please trust me on this. This is the fastest way to get what we need from her. Don’t interfere with what you see.”

Tom’s grip became a little firmer, “Abusing people is wrong, Camilla.”

“It is. But then she isn’t a person right now, and so she doesn’t qualify. Would you like to hear it from her own lips? Would that make it acceptable, then?”

Ginger’s voice was wrapped in need as she begged, “Slut has been a bad girl. She needs to be punished. Mistress has to punish Slut.”

“That makes it worse.”

Camilla’s tail wrapped itself around Ginger’s neck and tugged her close to one side, pushing Tom slightly as she moved. She took hold of Ginger’s hair again and pulled her face to look up at her, “Good Slut. You can lick my shoes.

There was no delay from when Camilla let go to when Ginger was on her hands and knees doing exactly that and mewling in pleasure from it.

Tom’s disgust with the whole situation came to a boil, and he shoved Camilla’s hand away from him. He turned away from the scene and moved towards the door, pausing there as he gripped the door handle, “Tell me something, Camilla. Is this what succubi do? Hurt and harm others? Are you going to suck away her soul next and kill her?”

To his surprise Camilla answered that with, “There is a difference between what you see and what there is, Tom. Please, look back.”

He did, and he saw Camilla as he had always known her, sitting on the chair, but with Ginger still on the floor in front of her degrading herself. Camilla’s tail was wrapped around Ginger’s neck directing her movements.

“If someone gave you your heart’s desire, wouldn’t you take advantage of it? This is what she wants, Thomas, and neither you nor I have the right to judge her. She needs this, has needed it for some time now. She’ll gladly answer anything for this to happen without hesitation.”

“I don’t like this, Camilla. Tell me something: do you like it?”

Camilla didn’t hesitate, “No. But that doesn’t matter, does it? Some sacrifices have to be made to get the answers we need.”

Then the scene shifted again to what it had been moments before, a slave groveling at the feet of a cruel Mistress.

Get the point, Dick?

Tom nodded slightly–“Still doesn’t mean that I have to like it”–and left the office, shutting the door behind him.

Camilla was silent for a time after Tom left. It was difficult to explain the world that she lived in to humans. Tom had managed to accept most of it, but this part of being a succubi or an incubi, the part of it where realities shifted and sometimes not for the best, was a problem. The problem in carrying it out came in getting too involved in the fantasy and having that stay with you when the moment was gone. Camilla knew already that she was going to feel dirty after it was all over, but she tempered that disgust with the knowledge that it might, just might, get her the answers she needed.

She rubbed her free hand over the mark on Ginger’s ass, “Now, you worthless slut, you will answer every one of the questions asked. For every one you answer truthfully, I will reward you with another cropping that you need so badly … And, if you are very good, I’ll let you finally cum like the needful cunt you are.

Her hand came down hard, “Understood?”

The answer was just above a whisper and was filled with need: “Yesssss, Missstresss.”

Camila held the crop in the air and began asking her questions.

What do you know of the Succubi?

“They are what is wanted.”

Camilla paused at that answer. It didn’t sound like something that Ginger would say on her own, which was troubling. She took the crop and placed it lengthwise against Ginger’s folds, pressing it against the flesh, “Wanted for what, slut?”

“To be claimed again by those they no longer serve.”

It took a great deal of control for her not to grab Ginger by her collar, and she managed in a curt voice, “Who wants them?”

Ginger didn’t respond to that. Camilla placed one hand against Ginger’s cheek, a green glow appearing there and moments later Ginger began to shake and mewl, but didn’t speak. Camilla’s fingers stroked slowly, “Slut… I am going to take you to the edge of cumming. Your pussy is going to ache and your mind is going to splinter apart piece by piece until you answer my question. The sooner you do, the better it will be for you … Otherwise, I am going to leave you a mindless shell here on the floor and then, oh then I’m going to find Mary Ann and do the same thing to her, slut.”

The answer was barely a whisper, one that Camilla would have missed save for the ragged breath that was taken before the words came out: “Please. Mistress doesn’t know why.”

Camilla drew the crop up and down as she tried to make sense of what had been said. Mistress doesn’t know why? But at the moment, Camilla was the Mistress here, wasn’t she?

“Tell Mistress why she doesn’t know.”

“Mistress does what she is told to do, just like slut.”

The cold shiver of realization of what Ginger had been trying to say made her stand up and run for the door, leaving Ginger curled up in a ball on the floor, her fingers pumping frantically in and out of her sex trying to overcome the hold that Camilla had over her.

To Camilla’s horror she heard the sound of a gunshot outside the door and went into a panic. She shifted back into her normal form, save for her horns and tail, which still were visible as she drew open the door and shouted, “Thomas!”

Moments before, Tom had left the office and closed the door behind him. It really bothered him how Camilla could do this. He supposed that most of his misgivings were because he was very old school in his thinking about relationships and sex. It had always been his belief that you found the right person for the right reasons, acted honourably, loved her, married her, and then were happy together.

He didn’t understand why people would want to suffer or be abused by others. It just didn’t make sense when he first heard of it and today … well, that hadn’t changed all that much.

He looked over to where Mary Ann sat at her desk typing away at a computer. Ignoring her, he moved towards the leather chairs and sofa on the far side of the room, hoping to find a magazine that didn’t have artificially enhanced women on the cover but did have some real articles within the pages. Looking at the table there, he sighed a bit as, of course, the only things to be seen were the current and past issues of the company’s flagship magazine, and nothing more.

Giving up on that idea, he dropped into a chair facing the office he just left and looked over the lobby. Lots of mirrors around–probably for Ginger to preen in, he thought. The doors through which the goons had left were closed … and Mary Ann … she was suddenly standing to the right of him in that stupid schoolgirl outfit, a slightly vapid smile on her lips.

“Hello Mary Ann.”

“Hiya, ‘tective! You need something while you’re waitin’?”

“No, thanks. Nothing here that interests me.”

She had a hurt look for a moment and then traced a finger over the curves of her breasts that showed over the top of the white shirt that she was wearing, “Nothin’? Nothing at all?”

Tom closed his eyes and sighed, “Nope. You have nothing that I’m interested in.”

To his surprise, Mary Ann patted his hand, “Wells, if ya want something, let me know, okay?”

He didn’t open his eyes, but instead tried to make sense of everything that had happened so far: thoughts of possible reasons, ideas of who was on the list next. But then, for some reason, his thoughts turned to his past and the one woman he had ever truly loved. He found the image of her forming so very clearly in his thoughts; he could see her, almost smell her perfume …

Sitting up, he coughed for a moment, and then heard a voice …

“Are you having allergies again, Thomas?”

That voice. Tom opened his eyes and saw standing there a woman with pixie-cut brunette hair with some blonde in it, a button nose, the pink lips he remembered so very well, wearing a black off-the-shoulder dress, and he heard the voice that he thought was gone forever.

“Hi, Thomas …”

It was her. Beth. And all of the feelings that he had kept bottled up inside for so long started seeping up again. He asked in a hurt tone, “How?”

“Don’t worry about it, Thomas. I’m here now and that’s all that matters, isn’t it?”

Tom found that it did matter, more than anything he had cared about in a long time. He got out of the chair and smiled almost stupidly, “Of course. I’ve missed you, honey …”

“I’ve missed you, too, Thomas.”

Her hands moved to straighten his collar: “You look good. Been looking after yourself?”

Tom found her voice soothing, and having her there just made the tension in his mind and body vanish, leaving only her voice as the one thing that mattered at that moment to him.

“No. Been missing you and … why did you have to go?”

“I’m here now, so you can forget about that, can’t you?”

Tom felt a little fuzzy then, like his thoughts weren’t connecting properly, like there was something that he should be remembering about Beth, but which wouldn’t connect in his mind. All he could do was listen to her voice and nod on occasion to her words.

“Why don’t you tell me what you are doing here, Thomas. Why are you and Camilla here?”

“Looking into a murder, but you don’t care about that.”

“Oh but I do, Thomas, I really do. Tell me about it.”

She slipped into his arms and for a moment he enjoyed having Beth in his arms again. It felt right. Just like the very first time he held her and they spent the night … together?

Tom’s eyes widened as he held her close and realized something. Beth couldn’t possibly know who Camilla was. That meant she couldn’t possibly be here. That meant … this wasn’t Beth.

His thoughts cleared enough for him to ask as he looked at her again, “How do you know Camilla?”

There was a look of confusion from her, “You introduced us? Remember? I’ve known her for years!”

That shook him from the stupor he was in and he turned away from her, “You’re not making any sense, Beth. Something’s wrong.”

She spun him back around to face her, her voice becoming more insistent, “You … introduced … us … Thomas.”

A wave of nausea came over him with her words and he closed his eyes to get that under control. The nausea went away and he found that his thoughts cleared, making him remember something.

She was wearing black. Beth never wore black. It was the colour she had hated more than anything else in the world. She’d rather go naked than wear black, she had once told him … and she never called him “Thomas.” Not ever. She didn’t like the formality of it, she told him. He would forever be “Tom” to her.

That snapped him clear of her hold over him and he acted out of instinct. Grabbing her by the arm, he pulled her down onto the floor, straddling her and pinning her there in the next moment. The anger pushed everything from his mind about Beth and he thought clearly at last: “Who the hell are you?”

“I’m Beth! Can’t you see, Thomas?”

He pulled his gun from its holster and placed the barrel against her throat, “You look like her. You aren’t. She only wore yellow. You’re wearing black. She called me Tom. You’re calling me ‘Thomas.’ And she never met my partner. You’re a poor copy of her; should have realized that when you first appeared. What the hell are you? Show me or I swear I’ll put a bullet in you.”

Beth—no, this poor copy of her—continued to struggle, the fear on her face evident and then, to Tom’s surprise, she smiled. Then Beth’s smile was gone and an evil grin had replaced it. And behind that grin was Mary Ann struggling to free herself from where he had her trapped.

“You fuck! I’ll tear your heart out and eat it!”

Tom had figured out by now that she was something not human. This only made him angrier than he had been. He had foolishly assumed that there was some kind of honour among those that weren’t human. Whatever Mary Ann was, she didn’t have any. The next thought was of Camilla and her promise to him: not to pry into his life, to let him make his own decisions. He realized that it wasn’t just a promise, it meant something to her.

He found that it meant something to him as well.

“You are so dead, cop! They’ll never find your body when I’m finished with you!”

His thumb pulled the hammer back on the gun, “Let’s see how you do with a bullet in you.” He moved the barrel from her neck, and pulled the trigger leaving a clean hole in the floor beside her right ear and it bleeding where the bullet grazed her. The look of shock in her eyes that accompanied the sound of the shot echoing in the office gave Tom some satisfaction.

Whatever she was, she could be killed by a gunshot, it seemed.

He put the barrel against her throat again, “Talk or the next one is going to make it hard for you to breathe.”

“Bastard! I’ll rip you apart!”

He heard Camilla’s voice behind him, “Thomas!”

He took a quick look. Camilla was standing there in a panic. He found that comforting, somehow: “Camilla. Get over here and help me before I kill this … thing.”

She ran towards Tom trying to hide the fear that had been in her eyes when she burst through the office doors and thanked the stars that Tom was still alright.

Tom looked at Mary Ann, no longer just the image of a bimbo, but now a twisted version of one,  one that had hate in her eyes and was obviously more than she appeared. As Camilla came closer, he told her, “The goons will be here in a minute. That gunshot will bring them running.”

Camilla’s smile was sure, “No, no they will not be, Thomas. I can promise you that they are … busy at the moment with other thoughts in their minds.”

He gave her an odd look and managed a smile, “Kinky ones?”

Camilla allowed herself a chuckle, “Very. You would be shocked.”

He turned back to Mary Ann, “So, what is she?”

Camilla’s tail struck out and slapped against Mary Ann’s cheek before she answered, “She’s s Siren. Mesmerizes her prey and then feeds them what they most desire to get what she wants.”

“Bitch. You’ll never get out of here alive. We’ll turn you both into thralls and you’ll…”  Tom’s hand against her cheek stopped Mary Ann’s voice and put shock into her eyes.

“I don’t hit women, but in your case you aren’t a lady, are you?”

She didn’t answer except to look at Tom with death in her eyes.

“Camilla, what do we know?”

“Nothing useable, save for Ginger being a pawn of Mary Ann.”

Tom considered that for a moment. If that was true, then Ginger didn’t have control over this place any more than her husband did. It also explained what happened to him and why Ginger was so over sexualized from the woman she had been when he had first met the pair and took them to jail for a minor incident in the past.

“Okay. So, then, what do we do?”

Camilla’s voice was cold, “She talks to my Tail.”

The look in Mary Ann’s eyes became one of fear and she struggled trying to get away, becoming more violent in her movements, seemingly not caring if she hurt herself.

“What the hell does that mean? Why is she freaking out?”

“She knows what it means Thomas. That’s what matters.” Camilla’s tail struck Mary Ann’s cheek once more, making her stop moving as she looked in fear at Camilla. “You can talk to us right now, or you can talk to her. Make a choice.”

“If I talk, I’m dead. If I don’t talk, I’m just as dead.”

Thomas took hold of her chin, forcing her to look at him, “Pick one. Which is worse?”

The voice that came over Tom’s shoulder was smooth and seductive, its tone wrapped in dominance …

“I think I am.”

A Review of Slave To Her Desires by Jill Myles

One of the series that I like very much is the Succubus Diaries series by Jill Myles. As part of that series she has released a number of short stories from that universe. You don’t have to have read the series to follow the story in this particular work, which is nice, and I think that it is a interesting first step into that universe if you aren’t a reader of it.

That’s a shame really as the author recently announced on her Blog that her publisher will not be supporting her in releasing the fourth book of her series and she is looking into self-publishing it. It amazes me that people seem to ignore good writing and characters.

This story, Slave to Her Desires, I think showcases that talent really well…

Slave To Her Desires by Jill Myles

Slave To Her Desires by Jill Myles

The book blurb reads:

Immortality is not always a blessing. Turned into a succubus against her will, Olivia Rhodes has lived the past 120 years as a slave to her cruel and vindictive vampire master. She’s escaped him, but he’s closing in fast. Her only hope? The fallen angel that abandoned her when she was turned, David Thornton.

But David’s not the cold-hearted monster she’s always thought he was…nor did he abandon her. And when Olivia’s hatred of David turns to desire, will her need for revenge against her vampire master destroy the one beautiful thing in her life, or will she find a way to make David love her despite the creature she’s become?

The story begins with Olivia Rhodes, the Succubus of this story, on her way to see a fallen angel, known as a Nephilim, who she believes will know where David Thornton, one of two beings that transformed her from human into a Succubus will be found so that she can demand of him something she wants more than anything else in the universe.

The death of her other master Aloysius, a cruel vampire.

She has a great deal of hate in her heart for David, but more so for Aloysius who as the story progresses and we learn more about him, is probably one of, if not the more evil and cruel of Masters that I have ever read in a story. Specifically the things he does to Olivia through the story.

And that was, I have to admit a problem for me.

Olivia has no choice when she is ordered to do something by either of her Masters. The way you become a Succubus in this universe is that you have sex with both a vampire and a Nephilim. As part of that your body changes, becoming more sexual and you get something that the Succubi call “The Itch.” In short you need to have sex every couple of days or you are in real trouble. But in addition to that, whoever transformed you has control over you and in doing so can do just about anything to you, or make you do it.

That last part is where I had problems. Not with Olivia herself, but in what Aloysius makes her suffer through. The sexual things I could deal with, they weren’t that bad. What got to me was the description of what she was forced to do with razor blades to herself by him.

I found myself not wanting to continue the story at that point and, I admit, I stopped reading it for an hour or so. That’s not because of the writing style, but the pain and suffering that Olivia had to suffer through. I’m not really thrilled with pain and suffering and so when it appears in a story I have issues with it.

And I honestly didn’t want to see if that continued through the story. I won’t spoil the tale save to say that getting past that point did have a reward for me in reading it which I appreciated very much.

Olivia as a character was tragic, There was so much self loathing in her thoughts that it was like a black cloud of destruction was always there with her. I also wasn’t thrilled with the view of most of the characters in the story that a Succubus was a worthless being “good for nothing but sex.” There’s nothing like having a terrible opinion of yourself and follow that up with the world beating you over the head with it.

David is, really, the light of the work even if Olivia can’t see that until the story arrives at it’s climax. He is however like a fish out of water in the story and that was played well I thought in so many ways. But what I enjoyed the most about him is that he has honour in him. That honour makes him very special in this universe and makes a difference to Olivia when she comes to terms with her own feelings.

Aloysius was simply the villain of the story. You are meant not to like him and from the first moment we learn of him that’s not difficult to do. You want Olivia get her revenge on him from the first page just from what she was forced to wear by him.

Well I would.

The story had all of the earmarks of Jill’s writing. Lovely writing style, characters that stand up on their own, scenes with emotion and a story that wasn’t there just for the sake of being there but to add to the universe she has created.

For those that haven’t read her series, I really think you should start with this story and see what her stories are about and how the universe is constructed. While Succubi do not have horns and tails like I prefer, they do have heart and soul and that is what really matters.

I’m giving this four and a half pitchforks out of five.

What I wouldn’t have given to see more of Olivia before she started to look for David…

That would be a story in itself.

Syfy adds Lost Girl… Is this a good thing?

The big news in the Succubi universe this past week was the announcement by Syfy channel in the US that they were picking up Lost Girl for broadcasting on their channel in the near future.

Lost Girl Logo

Now there has been the usual press releases all over the web, as well as the bloggers reblogging the announcements and then gushing over that saying how great that is.

But here’s the thing…

I don’t think that it is honestly good for the series overall.

So I took a few days to marshal my thoughts over this development and now I think I can talk about it without my emotions getting in the way of things.

I have a few issues with Syfy carrying Lost Girl, some are with the channel itself, but a lot of it has to do with the people in the US that have been commenting over the announcement and trashing it without having seen the show.

Let’s start with the tone of the show and how that relates to Syfy’s view of the universe. It is, let’s admit, not in Syfy’s best interests to leave the swearing that happens regularly in the series in place.

Lost Girl is very sexual in nature. As a result there are moments when characters swear or are naked or there are sex scenes that would make the American censors flip out. This means, at least to me, that they will be re-dubbing episodes for the language or taking out scenes that get a little too racy for the broadcaster. Now they will most likely have to cut into the episodes somewhat, the American commercial breaks are different than the Canadian ones which means that we’ll lose about five minutes of episode time per episode. This might not be a bad thing in the eyes of Syfy as they could take out a scene or two that might not make it past the censors, or more likely their owners NBC.

But that will I think remove a lot of what makes the series what it is. It’s supposed to be a little gritty language-wise and, let’s face it, we have a Succubus as the main character of the series. There has to be some sex in it or the fact she is a Succubus means nothing to the series.

Looking at past series that Syfy has rebroadcast, they have a tendency to edit the programs in a heavy-handed way. The edits sometimes remove important character development or we lose an important plot point as a result.

I can only hope that their edits are minor ones and they don’t change the series from what it is into a pale imitation of itself.

Syfy has had an odd relationship with series on its channel over the years. Shows like Invisible Man, which were well written, had a tight cast and a story line that was interesting get cancelled. Now, yes, they did, or were, the home for all of the Stargate series, not to mention Battlestar Galactica as well, but when a series doesn’t perform as they expect they move it around, mostly without any or little notice to the viewers. When that moving doesn’t help, then they cancel the series when the ratings aren’t good enough for them.

Now the press releases indicate that Syfy will air all of both seasons of the series, so this might not be an issue. However, if they hold true to their past, and the ratings aren’t what they expect, I can see a slow slide to oblivion for the series, which would not be fair to it. Still, there is that opportunity to show the series to the American viewers and I think that Syfy has been looking at the demands of fans in the US that want to see it somewhere there and think that it’s a good opportunity for them.

That brings me to the people in the US that are commenting on the series having never seen it. I have read comments about it being a copy of this show or that show. That it is another vampire series. That they want “hard” science fiction and that fantasy has no place on Syfy.

Will you all please get over yourselves?

If you want something other than wrestling on Syfy, then you had better embrace the series that appear on it and support them. That’s why Stargate Universe was cancelled you know. Everyone trashed it, walked away from it, and then, when the series got its footing and the series was amazing it was cancelled. Yes they have brought in other series to replace it, but let’s face it, the quality of what you had doesn’t seem to match what’s coming in to replace it.

I also would like to point out to all of the people that are whining that the series is about vampires. IT ISN’T! Can’t you read what the series is about? Can’t you figure out the difference between a Succubus and a vampire? Are you all that dense?

Get a clue will you all?

And for the record, one episode had one vampire in a minor role in it and that is it for the series. The creator stated very clearly that you will not see another one. Ever.

So how about you all take a chance and watch a few episodes before you make a decision on it? And if you really want to see the series, you must know that there are “other” means of seeing it right?

So have a look and then, if you don’t like it that’s fine.

Getting back to Syfy again…

They haven’t actually said when the series is going to premiere. This could result in a loss of ratings for the series and I’ll explain that. The new season starts on September 11th this year. That means that Syfy would have to start playing the first season episodes really soon in order to mesh the two season together properly and as well allow for the new season to start in the US as it does in Canada.

But here again the Syfy method of programming gets in the way.

They tend to show half-seasons at a time, then pause for six months and then show the latter half of the season’s episodes. If they continue that trend it would mean that in the US it would be well into 2013 before they would show the second season finale.

That would, I think, kill the ratings on the series because anyone really interesting in watching the show would have long before gone online to see it and see what happened. I’ll note that previous episodes are available on iTunes or on the website or on torrents.

So Syfy can’t honestly run the series as they have in the past. Will they change their programming to match the way Showcase releases episodes? Somehow it seems unlikely, but necessary.

Can Lost Girl work on Syfy?

Given some changes in their methods of programming and assuming that they don’t promote it as “campy” I think it can. But it’s been proven before that Syfy has issues with their programming and more so the way they approach their core audience. I wonder if they can resist trying to promote Lost Girl as “a sexier Vampire Diaries.” That might be a bit much to ask, but it would be a positive change for them.

Let the show stand on its own merits and promote it in that way. There is a lot in the series to like in it, characters, story lines and more, and that should be the focus of their promotions.

I don’t want to see them try to sell it as “the B series flavor of the month.”

Syfy is well known for their B level of weekly movies and it’s possible that they might try to promote Lost Girl that way. It’s not really B-class. I admit it’s not A-class either, but trashy, campy it’s not.

Hope that they remember that.

So after all of that, am I positive or negative on Syfy?

Honestly I still think that Lost Girl would be a better fit on HBO or Showtime in the US because they would leave the series as it is and not have to change it to deal with a ownership that is, honestly, gun shy on sexually explicit series. There is a track record there of allowing series to cross into territory that is a bit racy at time and not worrying about it. Censuring isn’t needed because the point is to allow the series to go places and go things for the sake of the story and the development of the characters.

I just can’t see Syfy doing that. To be honest I’m glad that they aren’t actually producing the Lost Girl series because they would probably have our Succubus Bo be a mouse and not be a Succubus.

Small mercies perhaps, but then you take what you can get.

We’ll see what Syfy brings to the table soon. I hope it is more than I expect of them.

It’s Sophie the Succubus’ Weekend…

This weekend, it actually started yesterday, is the annual Reaper Minatures Convention weekend, this year being held in Texas and you can find more information on that here on their page if you are in the Forth Worth area and want to attend it…

Now for those that do not know, the company mascot is named Sophie, and she is a Succubus.  And yes, she does have horns and a tail in most of her incarnations as well as wings and is, as she should be as a Succubus, a sexy thing indeed…

One of the things they offer each year is art of Sophie that appears on posters and T-shirts and son on and this year’s art I think is really interesting…

I think it’s sort of a Succubus meets Raider of the Lost Ark mashup thing and the art is just tremendous!

The line art:

And the finished poster artwork:

You can click on either one of these and see a larger version if you’d like one.

I have to admit that I do miss her having horns and a tail in this art… Succubi should really have those, but I suppose that the bat-like wings she still has sort of reflects that part of who she is…

I still think that her tail should be there and holding some sort of treasure or something…

Still, it is a lovely action image of Sophie and I am sure that those that attend the convention will enjoy the art!
