A Review of Temptation by Samantha Cain

There is a new book series that started this past November that has the interesting series title of: The Secret Lives of Succubi. The author promises that there will be a total of four books in the series and the first one, Temptation, will be the focus of today’s Succubi book review on the Tale…

Temptation by Samantha Cain

Temptation by Samantha Cain

The story is told of:

Jason Gallagher thought he knew the truth about the world around him… until he met her.

Lillian Luster thought she fully had a grasp on what to expect… until she actually met him.

They’ll soon discover that neither one of them truly knows what life has in store until they start living it.

But Lillian has a secret – one that Jason may be unable to overcome.

It’s never an easy thing to create a universe for any author. The trick is building one with characters that have a past and that the reader cares about, and placing rules about their universe that you can understand and that don’t change for no apparent reason.

This book, being the first in the series, introduces us to Jason, a normal average guy making his way through undergrad school and facing all of the problems and roadblocks that all students do… Except for one. He also has a problem in that he has become smitten by a woman in his classes named Lillian… and that will come to change his, and her lives forever…

I found how Succubi are weaved into the “normal” world was well done, I am somewhat disappointed that they have no horns or tails, but that’s a personal preference that I have for them. What they are, how they exist, and what they need to survive all make a good deal of sense. The difficulties that Lilian faces as a result are well played in the story and it helps to strengthen the relationship she has with Jason over time.

The other Succubi we see, are in their own way, quite evil as you might expect from their names and what they do in the story. I have to say that while I understand that there has to be an “evil” one to offset the “good”, there is a bit too much of the stereotypical evil character in her and I would like to see her become less so as the series goes along. A threat for threat’s sake doesn’t seem to match with the rest of the story…

The minor and other characters in the work are well fleshed out, though sometimes the use of regional accents becomes a little bit bothersome for my liking. While it adds to the flavour of the story, one particular character got on my nerves from the first moment he appeared and with the revelations that happen at the end of this story about him, I do hope that it’s a front more than anything else…

There is a good deal of “things below the surface that you don’t understand” here. That will, I expect, lead into the next books as it should, and I hope that the reveals aren’t just little short ones, but well explained as happens in this story.

In spite of all of the good in this work, there is something that bothers me about it. That problem is that it seems to take forever to get the story moving forwards. There is a lot of teasing and innuendo through most of the work, and then, as we come towards the end it seemed like there was a lot of information and character development to go through. Now, I can see why that would have to be as the story to that point didn’t really allow for Lillian and Jason to get to what she was and what he is to her.

But that was sort of a problem at least to me. There is a lot of world building that goes on, but then we sort of fall into a lull in the action which extends for what I think is a bit too long before the next crisis, or important moment comes to pass. I wonder if a little less internal monologue wouldn’t help to move the story along better and in doing so, allow for more story to be revealed over the course of the tale being told.

I’ll give it four pitchforks out of five.

I care about the characters, the threats that Lillian and Jason face are quite real and present, and that makes me want to see what comes next. I can’t give it five pitchforks because I think, as I have said, that the build up to the reveal and understanding took a little bit too long to unfold at the expense of the story itself…

A little less “tell” and a bit more “show” would help I think in that.

Still, this is the opening of a longer series and the groundwork has to be set for the rest of the path to be revealed and, in that, the author has a good foundation for a really fascinating series to come.

According to the author’s note at the end of this book, the next in the series will be appearing sometime in the summer of 2012 and I look forward to seeing where the story goes from here…

Succubi Image of the Week 211

It’s been a while since a Warcraft Succubus has been on the Tale and so this week I found one that I think is wonderfully done…

World of Warcraft Succubus by Gwendraeth

World of Warcraft Succubus by Gwendraeth

This is a World of Warcraft Succubus as created by an artist calling themselves Gwendraeth. I would like to say that I found their website or something about them, but their DeviantArt page has been removed and they don’t seem to be anywhere on the internet for some time.

I did find a page on Hentai Foundry with their work, which are mainly female elves which you can find here.

I think that this is a lovely rendering of a Warcraft Succubus, thankfully without showing her hooves which I personally dislike to no end… I like her tail and overall she’s sexy cute being a blonde, unlike the normal Warcraft Succubus who is dark haired…

All in all a lovely image of a popular Succubus…

I only wish there were more of this artist’s works to share about Succubi…

Black lace does not a Succubus costume make…

It strikes me that sometimes what a costume is made of, in some way, is supposed to define what a costume is… What’s a bit more telling is how the more complicated the name of the costume, the less thrilling the costume really is…

Like this…

Hot Devil Four Piece Bustle Tulle Skirt SetIt is called the Hot Devil Four Piece Bustle Tulle Skirt Set. Which to me is a long drawn out name that doesn’t really add to what the costume is…

It comes with the glazed lycra and stretch sequin bustier, a bustle tulle skirt, a  devil head band and a pitchfork.

And it sells for, yes, $137 US, shoes not included.

Honestly it looks like someone took a ballerina costume, changed the colour of it and then tossed in a pair of horns and a pitchfork, then called it a day.

No tail of course, why would they include one? It’s only supposed to be a devil woman themed costume right?

Notice the smaller image of the model in the background? I see no horns on that image and it reinforces my belief that this is just a “one costume fits all” creation.

It’s a shame really…

There is a certain amount of cute in this. Not much of it, but it would be a start if the overall look of it was a bit more sexy and a lot more thought out to have something in it that is, specifically, devil woman like.

And the horns and pitchfork do not count in that.

One half of one pitchfork out of five.

Still looking…

Desires 12

This next RP in the Desires series is something… different. Not in a bad way, but in that it asks of me personally a lot, but MZ is someone that I trust and miss often as I haven’t seen him in some time…

It should be understood, since it really isn’t at the beginning, that MZ is an “evil” mind controller… but he wants something from the Queen of the Succubi…

The RP will be posted somewhat differently than in the past as each of us wrote long, long passages in the series…

Hoping you enjoy…

Desires – Truths

By MZ and Tera S

Part One

I’d heard rumors of the legends that there was a big bad Succubi Queen. Tera they called her…. every mad scientist convention, someone had seen this or heard that…. occasionally a fellow mad scientist would just disappear. Everyone would always say that his path crossed with Queen Tera. She ensnared him and took control of his harem. Of course I, Mind Zapper, never believe such foolishness. No, I’m sure some fellow mad scientist just took over the other’s turf and conveniently spread rumors blaming this fictional Queen Tera.

That was until one day my drones reported back to me that they had captured a new recruit, but she was resisting all forms of enslavement. Heading over to the security monitoring room, I instructed to drone to bring up camera at my South America enslavement facilities. She switched the monitors from the current facility I was in to the one I commanded; sure enough there was a pretty young woman with a red collar around her neck still resisting everything we threw at her. Speaking into the microphone, I instructed the drones to resort to psychological torture to break her spirit. Figuring that was the end of the situation, I turned and left the security room. Moments later down the hall I heard someone yell, “It’s Her ” Just about ready to head back to the room and see for myself what happened, when a bang came from the room and smoke started rising out of the door way. Immediately initiation a code Red, I headed to my data back-up facilities and grabbed the live back up disk. Hearing lots of commotion outside the doorway, I knew this was serious. Activating my dimensional jumper, I retreated to my secret research facility in a parallel universe.

Nervously, I replayed the tape from my back up disk and what I saw left no doubt in my mind who was responsible for my current predicament. The video showed a legendary succubi stepping through a portal in the enslavement chamber. Her beautiful form was only matched by the powers I witness her using on my drones. She turned and looked straight at each of the hidden cameras and the video ended there. The footage was very brief, but the intruder’s green eyes, her red horns and that tail of hers left no doubt that I’d been attacked by Queen Tera. I printed up one of the only frames of Tera that I had. I’d been lucky to have escaped from the likes of her. Later I find out my entire empire no longer existed. With my pride smarting from the realization that all my fellow mad scientists would figure me for dead or enslaved, I swore no matter what the cost, I’d get my revenge on this all powerful Tera.

Luckily as part of my emergency plan, a specially conditioned drone assumed my identity completely took the wrap. I’d now seen Tera and she was real. Her speed and ease of taking my empire down told me I was totally out matched, but I wanted revenge. Figuring I would never be able to achieve my goals of supreme power over the Earth with an opponent like that around, I started researching everything that was to be found about this Queen Tera. It was going to be her or me. Thoughts of revenge consumed me, and I dedicated myself to win no matter the cost.

After months of research and hundreds of hours of planning, I’d come up with just how to deal with this Tera. My course of action was dangerous and highly risky. Taking at least three years of my life for my plan to either succeed or fail, I would finish what I’d set out to do. I’d get close to this Tera. I would make myself into her perfect vision of a man. Setting up my equipment to do the unthinkable to myself only a few months earlier, my program would copy my personality and memories for safe keeping and then upload a completely new personality, one that would appeal to Tera in every way. There was no other way; Tera would be able to read my thoughts and dark secrets from a mile away. I couldn’t confront her as myself.

My new masculine personality went by the name Curtis Allen, but always remained kind hearted, unselfish, empathetic, devoted, humble, and above all loving. A die hard romantic, old fashion values and a need to protect the innocent made him a man of uncompromising beliefs, but never judgmental. Knowing I needed something in his personality to resist Tera’s considerable abilities to influence others from completely devoting themselves totally to her, Curtis would believed he was a virgin. He would be saving himself for the perfect woman and even then only after marriage would he indulge in the fruits of passion. Of course I’d imprinted into him the images of Tera I had from my videos as his perfect woman. Curtis would date other women until Tera discovered him, but would never comment to any of them because they wouldn’t match up with his ideal mate.

Feeling safe the coast was now clear, I briefly returned to my own dimension snagging world renowned carpenter artists and down loaded all their skills and talents. Then I returned them before they would be missed. Using their knowledge base as carpenters, Curtis would quickly develop a reputation as the world’s greatest and most sought after carpenter. Tera has a reputation of enjoying the finer things the world has to offer. Curtis Allen being the carpenter to use when you need the best, Tera would of course hire “me.” If I’ve done my homework right, Tera will take an interest in Curtis. But if she scans my mind, she will only find that Curtis is sincere and trust worthy.

The only trigger I put into my programming was that Curtis would not be able to accept being anyone’s submissive except if they gave him an act of faith first. That act being to become his submissive for a day first, then and only then would he be able to truly trust them and freely give his whole heart to. After they fallen under his control, Curtis would have a need to look up a file on his special PDA filed under “Hell has frozen over.”

Finishing my new personality’s future home, I hid my conversion chamber behind a wall in the basement. Now ready to implement my plan, I stepped into the chamber. Seconds later the scanner finished backing up my mind and downloaded the data into a special file on my PDA. Slowly I started to feel Mind Zapper being erased. My every thought and being ripped from my mind as I get an idea what my old drones must have gone through. Mind Zapper was no more. Curtis Allen began up loading. After the new personality finished, the chamber dumped Curtis out onto the basement floor.

Slowly Curtis wakes up lying on the basement floor. Thinking nothing strange about sleeping in the basement, he did that a lot while working on a big project. Now fully awake, Curtis decided he was ready to conquer the world. Very quickly the world took notice of Curtis Allen and his carpenter artist skills. His carved works of art became highly sought after by museums. Requests for new works of art flooded into Curtis’ new art studio.

My answer next time…

Chapter 21

By TeraS

The thing about the Dark was that it was too confident. It thought that it had all of the answers and that no one could oppose it.

That was almost true.

She could, and did . . . regularly.

It had become almost an obsession for her now. There were so few who would challenge the Dark when it appeared, and so it fell to her to do so. It wasn’t a chore or an imposition; it had to be done, and she had seen enough of the Dark and what it was capable of to know that the best thing to do was what she did: drive it mad with anger and make it stop thinking.

Losing the one portal did that. Then letting it stew in its anger had made it get involved intimately with mortals and their world. She wondered if, this time, it would actually learn something from the experience or not.

Making the portal vanish was child’s play for a being like her. If the Dark ever figured out just how powerful she was, it might actually pause to think twice about the plans it had against Tera and her kind.

The thought did make her smile as the portal showing the severed tail reappeared among all of the Dark’s other ones. She stood there for a time, tapping a single pink fingernail against the surface and trying to decide what would be the most unpleasant thing she might do.

She could destroy this portal—the thought had been there before—but she had her own plans, and, for those, this one portal needed to remain, at least for the moment, in spite of what it showed.

The tapping stopped as she placed that hand against the surface and whispered to the awful image that it showed, “It will not be long. Promise.”

And, unlike some beings, she kept her promises.

She turned away, coming to the decision that, for once, just this once, she was going to make the Dark know what it was to lose something valuable.

What followed was the sound of fingernails raking across portal after portal, each of which turned white against the darkness, throwing light into a place which despised it. She didn’t ruin every single one of them, but, when she was done, she had left the Dark but three portals.

She thought that she just might be able to hear the scream of anger from it from three universes away when it returned to see what she had done here, and that thought made her smile slightly.

She glanced once more at the portals that remained, satisfied that this would be a problem for it, that it would have to spend effort and time repairing the damage if it could, and that, thankfully, might give the others needed time to figure out what was happening and where.

As much as she wanted to, she couldn’t actually get involved in the battle or make choices for those involved. It was, after all, necessary that all beings make their own choices, no matter how wrong or ill-advised they might well be.

Still, she had one thing that the Dark didn’t have: trust. Trust in others, trust that they would make good choices, but, most of all, trust in that one person that saved her life so long ago and, in doing so, changed her own universe for the better.

She would always owe that person for that gift.

She passed into the ether, on her way to where she needed to be. If the Dark could get involved with mortals, she could as well … to a point. But first she needed to talk to someone who needed to understand that some paths were not worth following.

Following the path of one who owed the succubi—and Tera, in particular—her life … that was the most foolish thing that it had ever done.

And it would soon learn.

As for the Dark, possessing one of its pawns was distasteful. But there was little choice. That damnable creature had cost it its watch over the tail. The one thing that would, if its plans went to completion, cause the barriers to fall before it and thus have what it wanted most.

But having to deal with a corporal form? That was something that it did not enjoy in the slightest. Emotions, thoughts, images from this pawn were getting caught between its own thoughts and, as well, it knew that its own thoughts would be mixing the other way.

But the important thoughts, the ones that it needed for itself, those it kept under lock and key, or so the Dark would believe. The problem was, as it always was, that nothing is ever completely closed off when beings merge, even if only for a short time.

Fingerprints leave smudges, after all …

It took the Dark some time to return to where the tail was kept. The wards around the place made it impossible for someone to appear there without seeing the place first and entering at one specific spot. From the outside there were traps and obstacles that it knew would stop any magic user from getting close.

But this pawn was tuned to the place, and the wards would fall before it. Even so, the time … the time was taking far too long for the Dark’s liking.

And so time passed, the Dark fumed, and the universe turned …

Storm Clouds

Chapter 22

By TeraS

“I think I am.”

Tom looked behind him expecting to see Camilla there, and she was … sort of.

It was Camilla, but her tail and horns were grey instead of black and her hair had changed color from blonde to purple. Tom couldn’t stop the words that came out: “I liked the blonde and black better, Camilla.”

She smirked.

And Tom paused. He was pretty sure that Camilla didn’t smirk.

“It’s a long story, Tom, and right now we haven’t got the time.”

And that was wrong, as well. Camilla never called him Tom. Mary Ann tried to get away again, and Tom was forced into flipping her over, straddling her, and then locking her wrists together with handcuffs before sitting on her legs. Having some control of the situation, he looked at Camilla and said, “We’ve got the time. You want to let me in on why the style change? Got tired of your hair color or something?”

She ran her left hand through her hair, pulling on it slightly, “Okay, short version: I’m Camilla’s bad side; I’m a bitch; I’m nothing like her, and you don’t want to screw with me. That good enough for you?”

“I’m never going to understand this, am I?”

She smirked again, “Oh, I dunno … You’d make an interesting Incubi … I can put in a good word for you if you’re up for it.”

Tom shook his head: “Thanks, but I have enough issues with my life as it is. The universe isn’t what I knew it was, there are people—like you—who are legends, and I am supposed to deal with that. Oh yes, and I am acting under the command of the Queen of a race of beings that exist on sex and pleasure and I have no idea why I should be, but I’m doing it anyway.”

She nodded, “Tera does have her ways, doesn’t she? At least she isn’t using that pitchfork of hers on you. Mind you, some like that sort of thing…”

“So what do I call you? ‘Not Camilla’ or ‘Punkie Brewster’ or what?”

She leaned down so that they looked into each other’s eyes: “You really want to know who I am?”

Tom didn’t finch: “I trust Camilla. She’s proven herself. I don’t trust you.”

She nodded: “Good; backbone and will. I can see why Tera wants your help. You may call me Nina.”

“All right; ‘Nina’ it is. Tell me something, seriously: does every one of you have an ‘a’ at the end of your name?”

She laughed, “No … Just some of us do. Congratulations, Tom; you just endeared yourself to me. Camilla will be pleased to know that.  Make sure you tell her when you see her again.”

The smirk vanished and she looked past Tom to Mary Ann on the floor beneath him, “You mind getting off her? She and I have … a past.”

“Good or bad?”

“I won’t kill her, at least, not just yet.”

“If I don’t?”

“Then I’ll have to move you, Tom. You don’t want me to, I promise you.”

Tom got up and moved to the side. Nina reached down and pulled Mary Ann to her knees by the handcuffs before grasping her chin. “Hello, bitch. It’s been a while since I’ve seen you. How long has it been?

The fear in Mary Ann only allowed a quiet whisper of an answer, “Babylon.”

“That’s right. As I remember it, you came into my temple and tried to turn my followers, didn’t you? You corrupted them from the top down and, in the end, you were responsible for how many deaths?”

“I don’t know.”

“I do. I remember them very well. You watched as they fought, four hundred eighty-six of them falling to your promises of riches that were hidden from them. And when it was over, what did they find inside the walls?”

Mary Ann closed her eyes, “Because everything they gave you, you returned to them … and more. You … you cared about cattle and …”

Tom didn’t see Nina’s hand as it struck Mary Ann, sending her sprawling across the floor.

“They are not cattle, you worthless bitch! They are more than you will ever be or ever could be. You can’t understand that, can you?”

There was no answer, and Nina pulled her once again to her knees by the handcuffs: “Here’s the deal. You tell us what’s going on and who’s in charge, and I won’t kill you today. You lie to me, and I’ll start taking you apart one piece at a time …”

She extended her left hand and, to Tom’s shock, a silver sword appeared there, flames dancing along its blade. Tom thought he could hear the sword … growling?

She placed the edge against Mary Ann’s neck: “You know what this is. You know exactly what will happen if I strike you with it. Camilla wouldn’t; she follows the new ways.  But I don’t. So make up your mind, right now, and tell me why you are here and what you have done to Ginger.”

Tom coughed, “Nina … You said you wouldn’t kill her.”

She didn’t look at Tom: “Oh, this won’t kill her. It will, however, take away what makes her special. What she is, she won’t be anymore.”  A cruel smile appeared, “And since she is so enamored with being immortal …”

Mary Ann closed her eyes, “You are a fool. I serve powers greater than you. You’ll never leave this room alive if you harm me.”

“Oh I’ve already harmed you. Now I’ll cripple you …”

And she pulled the blade back and then swung it towards Mary Ann’s neck …

What happened next was something that Tom would never quite be able to explain.

The blade came down and struck on her right shoulder, then passed through her body and came out at her waist… leaving not a mark on her. Mary Ann still breathed, still was alive, but the look of disbelief in her eyes that she had been struck was matched by the satisfaction in the look that Nina had.

…and what the sword now held upon its blade.

Tom could clearly make out what looked like a twisted ghostly image of Mary Ann’s form wrapped around the blade, the flames licking against that and a silent scream of pain on the ghost’s face.

Nina didn’t look at Tom, she just held the sword in front of Mary Ann, “You have very little time bitch. I’d say about three minutes before you aren’t immortal anymore. Maybe ten and you’ll start aging, and we both know what happens when you do.”

She looked at a clock on the wall, “Three minutes. Talk.”

Tom wanted to intervene. This was torture and he knew it. But he didn’t know what would either help or harm in the situation he found himself in. He didn’t expect that he would be able to disarm Nina, nor did he have any way to fix whatever Nina had done.

Tom hated being helpless… it reminded him of Beth and…

…he just turned away and kept his thoughts to himself.

To Mary Ann’s credit she held out for an entire minute. She just looked back at Nina, but when Nina drew a finger along the shaft of her sword and then licked a wisp of Nina’s ghostly form from her fingers, she caved in…

“Give it back!”

“No. You give me information and I’ll give it back to you. Better hurry. You’re running out of time… rapidly.”

The second minute started and she finally said, “The Dark. It’s the Dark! Now give it back!”

Nina stood up and then wiped the length of the sword with her fingers, balling the ghost into her hand before tossing it casually at Mary Ann. It fell into her body producing a sigh of pleasure from her lips and then a look of defiance on her face.

Which Nina promptly removed with another strike of her hand against Mary Ann’s cheek which resulted in her falling to the floor unconscious.

Nina then stood up and looked critically at Tom, “Tell me something. Other than you being human, is there anything special about you?”

Tom shrugged, “Cats like me.”

She looked at him for a long, long moment.

“That’s good.”

And then she pushed past him making for the elevators without another word…

A Review of Devil Red by Nova Chalmers

Some stories have twists in them that almost make the journey though the story worth reading. Changing stories that we all know into something different yet familiar is really a talent that few authors have. The question that strikes me is whether the twist in the end is really needed in the story or is it just there for the sake of being there?

Devil Red by Nova Chalmers

Devil Red by Nova Chalmers

The story is about:

A new twist on an old story. Meet Devil Red, a not so innocent woman on a mission. She’s got a treat to deliver, but when the others don’t quite play by the rules, Red gets even.

A basket with one hell of a goodie, a heroic woodsman with an axe to die for, and the horniest wolf in the woods, but Grannie herself may be the worst of the lot.

If anyone can sort them out and get to the cottage on time, it’s Devil Red.

Imagine the story of Red Riding Hood taken to a world of innuendo, sexual trysts and more sexual tension than you would expect to see. That in summary is the world that this author has created in this work.

Now I have to say that from the beginning that the sex in the story was quite central to the story. All kinds of fetishes and acts appeared from the start when Red appears to the end where the twist is revealed to the reader.

I won’t spoil that twist, you can read the story for free, but I don’t see how it needed to be part of the story, nor really what it added to it in the end. It was, I think more for shock value than anything else which after all of the rest of the story and how well that was written was disappointing…

But it is free, so you can read it and make your own decisions about the story and if the twist was really worth being there…

Oh, there are Succubi in the story, but they are fleetingly there in the work…

I’ll give it two pitchforks out of five.

Too short, the twist for me was not needing to be there, and I think that it took what could have been a really cute sexy read and made it a lesser story…

A how to draw Morrigan Aensland YouTube…

This week, and for that matter next week, I’m going to be sharing a pair of YouTubes that I found in which an artist draws Morrigan Aensland of Darkstalkers fame…

Their name is Xia Taptara, and I think that they do quite well at that indeed…

And if the embedding does not work…

And there is a complete article on their blog that you can find at: http://idrawgirls.blogspot.com/2011/04/how-to-draw-manga-morrigan-from.html as well…

And finally a look at the finished work:

Morrigan Pencil Art by Xia Taptara

Morrigan Pencil Art by Xia Taptara

You can find quite a lot of similar work at the website Idrawgirls.com, where there are many other similar videos that teach methods of drawing that I think are fascinating to watch whether you can draw or not…

I like this in that it is a nice clean drawing of Morrigan that isn’t do over the top as some art of her is…

Lovely and next week’s is just as nice I think…
