Desires 79

To take a chance, to accept that what is offered is the truth and is not deceit… That can be the hardest thing when you think you know of the one that offers…

He shook his head slightly. What he sought was not part of his or her realm. “It resides in theirs…” he murmured, looking out through a far window at the world beyond the coffeeshop. What harm would it do? He didn’t know…that was the greatest fear, even among mortal kind. Fearing the unknown.

But her proposal snapped him back to attention, his face softening to an expression of wonder for a moment before he masked it again. Golden eyes met green levelly, searching for truth in her words. They seemed to glimmer in the dim light, considering.

But he did not find deceit in her offer, nor ill intent in her eyes, and his eyebrows climbed a little higher. It amazed him still, despite meeting her face to face, how true the rumors were – the good ones, at least. Such a pure heart she had to have, to fight her nature the way she did, and take nothing in return.

His smile was gentle, and he nodded with acceptance. “This has been a most revealing night, and for that I thank you…however,” Slowly, he brought his hand over to gently clasp hers on the tabletop. “there is no need to ask for what will freely be given…” There was no resonance, no shock this time of their contact. A brief flicker, the faintest glimmering nimbus of light appeared around his head and hand, and vanished quickly enough that one might consider it a trick of the eyes. Compassion of purest feeling flowed between the contact of their hands, the gentle emotion warm and comforting. “…for both of us…” he whispered.

And isn’t it more accepting when the truth is within you as well?

And the truth is within both of them. Yet he does not yet seem to realize that she is not fighting her true nature; she is embracing it.

I hope she always manages to my heart…
