Pride and Succubus – A Play in San Francisco

This is a play running from August 7th, 2008 to the 23rd at the Thunderbird Theatre Company in San Francisco.

The website of the company is: http://www.thunderbirdtheatre.com/

Now… You’d expect that a play with that name would be about a Succubus at some point, but based on the little tease information that they give, the play is really about a vampire and a vampire hunter that catches his eye…

Life is difficult for Elizabeth Beenthere, who is of marrying age. If only she wasn’t such an inappropriately independent Vampire Hunter.

Things are just as bad for the fiendishly charming but dreadfully arrogant gentleman vampire, Mr. Darcy. He’d rather feed on young women instead of courting them. But love is in the bloody air when their eyes meet across a crowded dance floor.

Should Elizabeth follow her heart or simply drive a stake through Darcy’s? Can Mr. Darcy get over the whole creature of the night business and settle down? Or does Jane Austen herself have something to say about the whole affair?

The company is in its 10th year of production and I wish them well!

Hopefully we’ll see a Succubus in a Succubus titled play someday…

Do you really want a succubus–or, even worse, a succubi–tainted by association with something like this. It sounds like Jane Austen meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

    Mr. Darcy

Actually, James is pretty close in his description. The playwright, Caire Rice, makes no denial that she was heavily influenced by Buffy in the writing of it.

Oh, and don’t worry, Tera. A Succubus is prominently featured in the play, though her true nature is concealed until the final showdown. It turns out she’s been waiting for just the right incubus to come along.

It’s been a blast to be in, actually, and the audiences have been rowdy and appreciative. I wouldn’t consider it a “taint” as James suggested. More of a blood stain, really.

    Welcome and hello my dear!

I did read that she was influenced by Buffy to a large extent and so that is not a surprise really…

As for a Succubus waiting for the right Incubus to come along…

I can truly relate to that decription…

Hope that your run was wonderful!

Good luck in your future events and desires!
